You can't. He is the only person that can make himself stop. Obviously there are internal issues he's dealing with if he's giving you the impression that he hates his life. He probably does. You're his child so you won't know what he's been through and the secrets he has that are eating away at him. Alcohol makes people forget the pain, or at least numbs it a litttle. He's going to have to seek professional help to deal with his issues before he will be sober. Noone can force him to change. The only thing you can do is be there for him. IF that's what you want. If he's mean and unwilling to change how he acts and how he treat you, then you don't need to waste your time trying to help someone who doesn't want to be helped. Don't let him drag you down. How can i help my dad stop being an alcoholic?

SO GO TO WEB PAGE and good luck.
My dad is an alcoholic too. He drank a lot of beer. We took him to rehab. With the help of God and all of our prayers he got through it. He has not a drop of alcohol in about 2 years! Take him to rehab if you can. After that all you can do is pray. Just pray to God for your dad to get better and for his soul. Good luck! I will pray for your dad too!
You need to understand that only your dad can help himself get sober, and he has to want to do it. For now, concentrate on how you can deal with it better. There are organizations that help family members of alcoholics. Check out this link and see if they have something available in your area.
