other than telling him you wish he wouldn't drink, there isn't a thing you can do. your dad has to want to quit, until he does, no one can help him.My dads an alcoholic how can i help him ?
write him a letter telling him how his drinking affects u. explan how much u all love him and want to support him. remind him of all the bad times and tell him how much it bothers u and how u will be there no matter what when he wants to make the change for good.
talking from experience people who over drink r usualy trying to numb the pain of all their troubles. try to find out what he is upset over n try to help make things right!!! good luck
there is so much help out there now days for alcoholics and their families it wud be a good thing to research support groups and work through this as a family.
Oh sorry to hear that, my dad used to be just the same, then one day i said 'dad i really love you and couldn't bear to live without you because this drink is damaging you, if you don't stop il walk out on you forever' and that sorted him out, i hope i helped and good luck (:
You can take a horse to the water but not make him drink it
And in your fathers case he can't stay away from the booze and the problem is that he doesn't want to stop it himself.
Then nothing will help:sorry.
Wish you all the best and good that you care

If he won't go for help there is nothing you can do. It is very difficult to stop an alcoholic from drinking. Your mum is right to keep you away from him until he sorts things out.
Until he decides himself he wants to stop and get help then there isn't anything you can do.
Hope it all works out ok for you xx
have his close friends stage an intervention
