I live in a family full of alcoholics.
What would you consider alcoholism?
or an addiction?
I mean they always drink everyday. some days more than others.
I don't think i have an addiction.
I drink when i go out socially and ive tried to not drink at home at all because i dont want to follow in their footsteps.
I probably drink once on the weekend or whenever i go out with friends to events or birthdays.
What are things i should avoid. I dont want to cancel alcohol entirely i think i enjoy it responsiblyHow can i escape/avoid an addiction?
Alcoholism is a disease and an addiction. Do you have to drink socially every time you go out? At least you are seeing that it can become a problem. Talk with your family doctor or an alcohol and addiction counselor. I would consider an addiction like a compulsion,it has become second nature to do something. How can i escape/avoid an addiction?
I think you should be very careful with alchohol and if you have to drink, drink in moderation and never to excess. Just as some families are predisposed to heart disease or cancer, yours is predisposed towards alcoholism and addiction. I know of someone in the same situation as you who was very careful with drinking until she reached about age 25 and wanted to drink occasionally like everyone else. Despite a good job and an Ivy League education, she too is now an alcoholic.
Think carefully about drinking and whether it's something you really NEED to do.
It sounds like you're doing the right things now so keep it up.
Usually the best way to define an addiction is when what ever you're doing affects your life.
You sound like a very wise person .
Stay away from people that drink and enjoy your life on other ways,
good luck
